FlowState
A Yoga-Based Rehabilitation System for Early-Stage Parkinson’s Disease
About
Many patients with Parkinson’s disease are unable to receive care due to long turnaround times, waits for specialist referrals, and a lack of access to clinics that guide patients through their symptoms. For Americans alone, the costs of standard treatment increase by over $9,600 per year to $27,466 per year over 5 years. FlowState, an affordable wearable device that guides patients through physical therapy and yoga-based routines through haptic feedback, allows for the realization and correction of user movement in real-time. In conjunction with regular medication, FlowState captures users’ inertial measurements and allows clinicians to adjust exercise routines, ensuring patients improve their symptoms. This device ultimately reduces the need to increase dosage and effectively prevents over-reliance on medication for symptom management.
