MOTUS

About

Neuromuscular diseases are often diagnosed and monitored through routine electromyography (EMG) exams, occurring at specified inpatient appointments These exams are often inaccessible to rural or low-income communities due to financial constraints and a lack of trained personnel. MOTUS focuses on the development of an inexpensive, high-density, wearable EMG and accompanying phone app to collect, process, analyze, and transmit motor unit activity across muscle groups for use during diagnosis of neuromuscular conditions and tracking their progression. This device can substantially reduce the requirement of numerous in-patient appointments needed for routine EMG exams, improving early detection of neuromuscular conditions in rural and low-income communities and increasing the likelihood of continuing treatment.
